How TLF Rewards Works

Get Rewarded

Our TLF Rewards program is similar to frequent flyer points or a supermarket club card, but in this case, you’re rewarded for patronizing participating Think Local First businesses. You earn merits for shopping at these locally owned businesses and accumulated merits can be spent on various rewards from any participating business.

Watch this 30 second video created by Gordie Tupper and CHEK TV:

Think Local First Rewards is powered by Supportland, a loyalty platform designed by Katrina and Michael Scotto Di Carlo. It helps small businesses gather information about their customers and see which customers they share with other businesses in the network. The point is to offer the independent business the same level of access to sophisticated data used by large big box stores.

How Does it Work?

You will be redirected to the Supportland sign up page

Visit a participating business, pick up a TLF Rewards card (which features a great graphical depiction of Victoria), register your card at supportland.com, and start collecting merits when you shop at participating businesses. The next time you make a purchase at a business, show them your card (or tell them your phone number if you have linked your mobile number to your card) to collect merits. Once your ‘wallet’ has accumulated enough merits, you can Shop Rewards and redeem them at any participating business.

There are two distinctly separate functions of the TLF Rewards card: merits and punches.

Supportland merits are cross-business (you earn them whenever you swipe at a participating business), whereas punches are just a digital form of the old school paper punch card and are business-specific. Merits can be used anywhere in the Supportland network, which now has grown to Portland, Oregon, Tacoma, Washington and Victoria.

You can use merits at any business, from the garden store to the brewery, even if you earned them by drinking coffee or buying clothing. But, you CANNOT use your buy-five-scoops-of-ice-cream-and-get-one-free punch card to get a cup of coffee next door.
